Cognitive, behavioural and familial maintenance mechanisms in childhood obsessive compulsive disorders: A systematic review

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for preadolescent children with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is typically derived from adult cognitive behavioural models of OCD; however, it unknown whether these apply to children. This systematic review examined 11 cognitive, and familial maintenance mechanisms identified OCD descriptions how family factors may maintain applied symptoms/disorder (OCS/OCD; Prospero:CRD42019153371). PsycINFO, MEDLINE Web Science Core Collection were searched in March 2019, forward citation handsearching conducted March/April 2020. Twenty-nine studies synthesised. Studies only six the proposed factors. Of factors, inflated responsibility meta-cognitive beliefs showed evidence independent and/or specific associations childhood OCS. less frequent displays parental confidence, positive problem solving rewarding children’s independence some specificity OCD.
